Walking Timebombs is one of a handful of projects to emerge from the home studio of Houston techno-clatter auteur Scott Ayers in the ‘90s. It's sound is a somewhat soothing departure from Ayers' work with industrial noise purveyors the Pain Teens and leaden guitar-rock trio Truth Decay.
Ostensibly Ayers' "solo" debut, 1997's "The Walking Timebombs" largely replaces the numbingly off-putting grind of those two acts with an organic mix of new-school trip-hop and old-school industrial.
Static Migration (1998). Experimental guitarist and producer Scott Ayers, a.k.a. Walking Time Bombs, teams up with Neurosis on this album…
Born in the UK, Chinmaya Dunster is an established recording artist whose music blurs the boundaries between cultures. After discovering the sarod in 1979, he embarked on a fifteen-year training in Indian Classical music. Along with his backing ensemble, the Celtic Ragas Band, he has since found a unique way to merge Indian music with Western folk music. This has drawn accolades from, amongst others, Sir Paul McCartney, who invited Chinmaya to perform at his wedding in 2002. Whether he’s wearing the hat of the innovator or the traditionalist, every album from Chinmaya Dunster is filled with surprises. "I’m a natural explorer," he says. "I hope that the listener can feel that my music is about evoking depth and the inner world of silence."
Named after a fictional god from J.R. Tolkein's mythical epic The Silmarillion, Iluvatar has become an international progressive rock sensation. Formed in Baltimore in 1992 by vocalist Glenn McLaughlin, drummer Gary Chambers, bassist Dean Morekas, guitarist Dennis Mullin, and keyboardist Jim Rezek, the band follows in the footsteps of '70s prog heroes such as Genesis, Marillion, Styx, and Pink Floyd. The quintet pushed the boundaries of standard rock forms with technical wizardry and the incorporation of jazz and classical elements and is still known best for mixed-meter songwriting and heartfelt lyrical delivery. Their first release was issued in 1993 on Kinesis Records, and they soon became the label's best-selling release…
Although this instrumental fusion band has been around since 1992, they only released their first album eight years later and, my oh my, was it ever worth the wait! Imagine King Crimson, UK, The Mahavisnhu Orchestra and early Jean-Luc Ponty all rolled into one plus some discrete traditional Japanese references. Powered by the violin, KBB's music is dynamic, playful, intense and complex, yet melodic and surprisingly accessible. The band includes an exceptional violinist named Akihisa Tsuboy who also plays cellolin and guitar in addition to composing most of the material. The other members are keyboard player Toshimitsu Takahashi, bassist-guitarist Dani and drummer Shirou Sugano. All four musicians are extremely proficient.
